blessings on you both
I've heard the rumours that a national political celebrity and a libertarian I'm less than fond of have been engaged is a romantic affair.
I've no idea whatsoever if this is true. Nor, honestly, I do I greatly care- save that it gives me some hope that the libertarian in question may have a brighter spirit than I'd previously guessed. Under these guidelines, I have only this say:
If, in this world of suffering, oppression, repression, and pain- two human beings have indeed found happiness in each other arms- then every one of us should bless them and wish them the best. Shame on those of you who would giggle at this. And don't talk to me about maritial fidelity. What our society should be ashamed of is not the romantic affair but the loveless prison of marriage which forces women and men to conceal desire when it is genuine. And for those of us the carry the torch of liberty- wherever they may be found in this world- consider that the extinction of personal desire for the sake of marriage and family is the archetype of the public extinction of individual interest for the collective good. Do not defend that conscription which drafts human eros into the household army of procreation and social order. Do not confuse the spirit of a free society with the cartelisation of human desire. Remember 1984, Julia, and Winston Smith. Genuine bliss, complete in itself, the naked connexion of conciousness with value, is what the tyrant usurpers of the Earth never want you to feel.
Now, fellow bloggers, please shut up. If this be an affair of genuine desire (or even if it is not)- let the cloth of night, in its velvet black and soft, cover these friends from our searing, white-stabbing eyes. Let's talk ideas and do so loudly. But tonight, if no other night, these fellow mortals are our friends, our sisters, our brothers. They are the best, meaning the most true, in all of us.
Blessed be.
